New-build social housing for Futures Housing Group, Somercotes, Derbyshire

This regeneration scheme provides 12 new affordable homes on a tight site near the centre of Somercotes, a former mining village in the Amber Valley. The existing site was narrow and quite constricted with a number of adjacent properties overlooking. 

The development consists of a mix of 2-bed family houses, together with 1& 2-bed apartments arranged at either end of a courtyard. The design challenge was to arrange the 12 units on the site without overwhelming the neighbouring context or feeling overlooked.
